This unique model train layout is a three dimensional storyboard created by a scriptwriter, Edward Kutner, with help from a Hollywood set designer as an exercise for imagining characters and plot. Scenarios were fashioned within the layout from which a narrative could be drawn. The resulting script was optioned by 20th Century Fox which suppressed its development because of similarities to the film ‘Speed’ which was currently in production.

Scott was intrigued by the ironic nature of the train layout and wanted to visually exploit the intricacies within scenarios such as the drug bust, suicide attempt, toxic waste clean-up as well as normal scenes of commuters, shoppers and town workers. Through the photography of Clarksville, all facets of a town’s life, the daily routine of commerce and industry contrasting with nightlife scenes corruption and vice, encourage different narratives to emerge.
